THE SEVERED SIMULACRA

An Immersive Experimental Audio Experience

Envisioned as a 12-inch vinyl edition, with one movement per side.

The Severed Simulacra explores the severance of human consciousness from its original ground through technological mediation, artificial desire, and the pursuit of synthetic transcendence. Situated between cosmic listening, metaphysical inquiry, and post-human unease, the work examines the moment at which simulation no longer reflects reality, but begins to replace it.

The project emerged from an exploration of NASA's archival recordings associated with Saturn and its rings, where the study of planetary phenomena became a point of departure for sonic experimentation and philosophical inquiry. These encounters with the sounds of scientific exploration inspired The Chorale of Cassini, an approximately 40-minute immersive composition traversing cosmic abstraction, experimental electronics, and acoustic string instrumentation in what Esoterik BEing describes as An Exploration of String Theories. Here, the physical resonance of strings intersects with electronic frequencies and cosmological imagination, exploring vibration as both an audible phenomenon and a conceptual bridge between matter and consciousness.

Rather than simply imagining outer space, The Severed Simulacra considers the relationship between the universe we observe, the technologies through which we interpret it, and the consciousness that gives those observations meaning.

SHANNON HARRIS AKA ESOTERIK BEing

Shannon Harris, aka Esoterik BEing, is a Chicago-based experimental composer, electronic musician, field recordist, and sonic researcher whose work explores the intersections of acoustic resonance, experimental electronics, spatial sound, and consciousness. Active since 1986, his nearly four-decade practice draws upon Afrofuturism, ethnomusicology, environmental recording, and international cultural research across six continents.

His immersive compositions and interdisciplinary work have been presented through Carnegie Hall's Afrofuturism Festival, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Adler Planetarium, Elastic Arts' 16-channel CLEAT system, and the University of Chicago's Logan Center for the Arts. His recording history includes releases associated with BBE, Neroli, Rainbow Disco Club, Tribal Winds, Here and Now Recordings, and his own Urbanicity Recordings.

Working between organic instrumentation and electronic abstraction, Esoterik BEing creates expansive sonic environments investigating the relationships among vibration, technological mediation, human perception, and the unknown..
